James Fisher

Managing Director

Experience

James Fisher, F.Inst.L.Ex, Member of the Academy of Experts, Senior Costs Draftsman and Costs Budgeting Specialist, Managing Director

James is a well known and respected member of the costing community both locally and nationally. He has been involved in a number of important costs decisions at Court of Appeal, High Court and County Court level.

James is regularly instructed by Legal500 firms, banks, local authorities, blue chip companies and litigants in person. James has a thorough knowledge of legal costs and knows the subject ‘like the back of his hand’.

Although James has a broad knowledge of all contentious and non-contentious costs matters, he devotes most of his time to dealing with high value complex claims and advocacy. He is a familiar face in the corridors of the High Court Senior Courts Costs Office in London and at local County Courts. He divides his time equally between a Claimant and Defendant caseload. James’ robust approach and pragmatic advice has netted tens of millions of pounds for his clients over his 18 year career in the law. To reflect his expertise James is now a member of the Academy of Experts. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Lawyers. He has written many articles and has been featured in several legal journals.

James always enjoys fighting for the underdog and has for many years assisted litigants in person with disputing or recovering costs. He has a particular interest in Solicitor and client costs and Solicitors Act 1974. He has been involved in a number of reported cases on the issue of ‘statute bills’ and ‘special circumstances’ under s.70 of the Act such as Leel v FBC Manby Bowdler [2010].

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of work James enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and badminton, reading scientific papers and (trying) to play the guitar.
